Child Support InformationState Disbursement Unit (SDU)
Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services For your convenience, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (IDHFS), Division of Child Support Enforcement, recently implemented a new toll-free customer service Automated Voice Response System (AVRS). The AVRS is available to answer your call in both English and Spanish, 24 hours per day, seven days per week. The number to call to reach the AVRS is 800-447-4278. If you have an active child support case with IDHFS, you can receive the following information from the AVRS:
To access your specific case information, you will need your Social Security number and the date of birth of the child in the respective case. If you do not have an active child support case with the department and would like one, a customer service representative will be able to answer your questions and take your application. Please call 800-447-4278, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except state holidays. change the way it handles child support and spousal support payments.
Federal Public Law 104-109 enacted August 22, 1996, and State Public Act
91-212, effective July 20, 1999, govern the child support payment processing
and disbursement, commonly referred to as the State Disbursement Unit
(SDU). A support payment is a payment made pursuant to a court or administrative
income withholding order for the support of a child or maintenance of
a spouse. These changes were made to make the collections and distribution
of support payments easier for employers, remitters, and families. We
need and appreciate your cooperation in complying with the laws.
